Young Carers Books and Library

The Young Carers Team at Sefton Carers Centre has a large selection of books in our Young Carers Library to interest all readers from age five to fifteen.

As a result of a generous donation from Dowhigh Ltd many of these books are available to lend to young carers and their families.

The titles on offer sensitively explore a range of issues which young carers may relate to. Titles such as ‘I wish Mummy could’ and ‘Crenshaw’ explore conditions and disabilities that young carers’ families may be affected by. While ‘The Invisible String’ and ‘Living with Viola’  explore common challenges young carers face such as separation anxiety and worries.

With a Care in the World

Our library also includes our ‘With a Care in the World’ book collection launched in 2021.

This series of four books is inspired by the lives of young carers living in Sefton caring for family members with Autism, Cancer, Dementia and Mental Health struggles and was produced in collaboration with the Steve Morgan foundation.  These books will enable young carers to identify with the central character’s day to day reality and the impact support can bring.

Multiple copies of these books are available for schools and Sefton libraries to request. Please get in touch with the Young Carers Team to order some free copies for your school.
