Young Carers Summer in Sefton!

Young Carers Summer in Sefton

Our Young Carers team has had a very busy 6 weeks summer holidays, delivering a full timetable of activities and days out to young carers across the borough. The summer was jam packed with activities such as bowling & laser tag at Tenpin Southport, cinema visits at Crosby Plaza Cinema, days out to Crosby Beach and much more.

We kicked off the summer with a 3-day residential trip to Crosby Hall Education Trust (CHET) with 21 of our young carers enjoying activities such as rock climbing, abseiling and archery, young carers were able to enjoy a well-deserved break from their caring roles.

And this year, thanks to a generous grant from Southport Recovery, we were able to plan and deliver a fully funded day trip to Chester Zoo for 35 young carers, a place many of our families are unable to visit due to health conditions and financial constraints. Young carers were lucky enough to see a baby snow leopard at the zoo!

This has been our busiest summer holidays so far with over 400 attendances throughout the 6 weeks, allowing our young carers to access a break and have some fun with friends during their break.

Here are some feedback messages we received during the summer:

“Hiya Danielle, I would just like to thank you and the wonderful team at Sefton young carers, my daughter really enjoyed being able to come along to Chet for the residential and to flip out and McDonald’s she really did have the best time and a little break from being the best young carer to her little brother “

“She loves going out with you guys and we would be lost without you guys at young carers”

“Hi, I had a great time at young carers and I have made some new friends’”

“Thank you so much for everything you do, my daughter loves these activities and with my disability there’s no way I could do many of these so I’m really grateful to all the team”

“I cannot thank the team enough for the support and the opportunities given to my daughter over the summer for respite days. I’ve seen her bloom with confidence and make new friends who resonate with her due to the support she provides me with. This service has been more beneficial than I thought possible. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all”
