Carers News Bulletin July 2025

Carers News Bulletin July 2025

Welcome to the first edition of our online carers news bulletin. Although we will continue with our quarterly newsletters, we have started this bulletin to share news, stories and events from Sefton Carers Centre and from the carers of Sefton. This month’s bulletin will be covering this year’s Carers Week & Volunteers Week, the recent honour received by our Chair, a great opportunity for carers to receive a free hotel break in partnership with Carefree and updates around recent carer events.

Carers Week 2025

Carers Week 2025 was centered around ‘Caring About Equality‘, highlighting the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation and poor mental & physical health. We hosted various events in Waterloo, Southport, Aintree hospitals and at Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood to reach and inform carers throughout Carers Week.  To present their Cyber Choices programme, Merseyside Police came to give our Parent Carers an important chat helping to protect people online whilst the Living Well Bus was also available throughout the week offering health checks to carers across Sefton.

Volunteers Week 2025

This year, we were pleased to be joined the High Sheriff of Merseyside, Billy Hui BEM DL for our Volunteer’s event. The event gave us the opportunity to award and give recognition to all our volunteers that help support carers across Sefton. Whether it is through supporting carers with regular phone calls, hosting coffee morning groups, offering counselling support,  providing administrative support or any of the other crucial services that our volunteers provide, we are truly fortunate and to have such incredible volunteers.

Hotel Breaks for Carers!

Website: Carefree

Sefton Carers Centre have teamed up with Carefree to offer much needed free breaks for carers.

Carefree is a charity that transforms vacant hotel rooms into vital breaks for full-time unpaid carers.

As this is intended to be a break for carers from their caring role, the cared for cannot come along with the carer, however carers will be able to bring an additional person with them if they wish to do that.

If you would like to take up this offer then either email help@carers.sefton.gov.uk to request a voucher code or Contact us through our website by clicking here and pass us through your details.

You must be registered as a carer with Sefton Carers Centre. If you’d like register with us then get in touch through email, phone or you can self-refer by clicking here.

Royal Honour for Sefton Carers Centre Chair, Mo Kundi MBE

As part of the King’s Birthday Honours list last month, our chair Mo Kundi was awarded an MBE in recognition for his achievements and services to Sefton Carers Centre.

Mo has been the Chair of the Board of Trustees with Sefton Carers Centre for over a decade that has seen the Centre increase it’s support to over 12,500 unpaid carers in Sefton.

Marine FC Visit

Dementia Fish & Chips Event

shared image (14)

Our carers recently had the opportunity to visit Marine Football Club on a lovely morning and were toured around by Club Chairman Paul who shared fantastic stories of the deep history of Marine FC from a season ticket dating all the way back in 1903 to the famous match against Tottenham in more recent times! A big thank you to Marine FC for providing our carers with a great morning.

Hosted by Alzheimer’s Society, our carers have also recently visited Silcocks Embassy Restaurant in Southport. The restaurant graciously hosted our carers and those they care for who are living with dementia. After an excellent first visit in February, the second visit was no exception with fish & chips, bingo and a bit of music resulting in a very pleasant afternoon.

Carers Courses & Activities

As we are now entering into the summer holidays, many of our courses are on hold until September. However, any courses that are running will be on our Activities and Training page here. Our carers coffee mornings and mental health groups will continue to run throughout the summer.
