Here at Sefton Young Carers we have been extremely busy during our first year in operation. While making connections with other services in Sefton and establishing a working partnership with other agencies, we have also been working hard to continue to support young people through their schools and our activity clubs.

We have been so fortunate to have such kind friends and supporters who through their generous donations allows us to buy resources and fund much needed trips out and breaks for our young people. Below are some of the names of our recent beneficiaries to whom we are so grateful and can’t thank enough.

Barclays Bank PLC, Blundellsands Methodist Church, Crosby Hall Educational Trust (CHET), Formby CVS, Gordon Short Chemist Crosby, Leyland DAF (Helping Hand), National Citizenship Scheme, Rotary Club of Crosby, Soroptimist International Crosby, Southport Links Rotary Club, St Peter’s Church Formby, Steve Morgan Foundation and The Lloyds Foundation.

Leyland Daf Trucks

The team recently paid a visit to Leyland Daf Trucks Ltd in Chorley who had named Sefton Young Carers to be the recipient of a donation from their charity Helping Hand.

The team attended a presentation on location in the factory where we learned lots of interesting facts about the company and we were also able to tell them how their donation would ensure the continued support of local young carers. The cheque was presented by their charity chairman Matt Kersey.

Young Carers Groups

Each week we hold two young carers groups, these weekly meetings are a chance for young carers to take a break from their daily responsibilities and enjoy time with other young carers. These groups allow young people to share their own experiences whilst having fun and engaging in different activities. We try to engage other agencies into our group sessions to ensure our young people are aware of the services that are available to them. We recently invited Bully Busters to attend our evening groups to talk about different forms of bullying and how to prevent it. We also arranged for a British Red Cross instructor to come to our evening group to hold a session about basic first aid.

BULLY BUSTERSCPR

Recently our young carers enjoyed a two day break at Crosby Hall Educational Trust in Little Crosby. They joined in with lots of different (and muddy) outdoor activities and were able to make some new friends.
